Dr. Maria Cristina Ferriol graduated in 1998 from Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in Biology and a Minor in Latin American Studies. She continued her education at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, earning her Dental Medicine Doctor degree in 2003. While attending Tufts, she won such honors as the Pierre Fauchard Dental Student Scholarship award, the Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Periodontics, the TUSDM Alumni Council Excellence Award in Public Health Dentistry, and was twice the recipient of a Colgate-Palmolive Scholarship Award.

SUCCESSIVELY, DR. FERRIOL ENTERED THE POST-GRADUATE PROGRAM IN PERIODONTOLOGY AT TUFTS, WHERE SHE EARNED HER ADVANCED EDUCATION CERTIFICATE IN PERIODONTICS IN 2006.  DR. FERRIOL WAS A TWO-TIME RECIPIENT OF THE RICHARD PETRALIS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN POSTGRADUATE PERIODONTICS. DURING HER THIRD YEAR, SHE WAS SELECTED TO BE CHIEF RESIDENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTOLOGY. IN 2007, SHE BECAME A DIPLOMATE OF THE AMERICAN BOARD OF PERIODONTOLOGY.

Following her training at Tufts in 2006, she returned to her native Puerto Rico, where she worked in private practice limited to Periodontics and was the Staff Periodontist at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System. In addition to treating patients during her 9 years at the VA, she worked with residents as the Perio Attending for the GPR (General Practice Residency) program. She is an active member of the American Board of Periodontology, the American Academy of PeriodontologyColegio de Cirujanos Dentistas de Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico Periodontology Association.

Outside of the office, Dr. Ferriol enjoys a great Zumba class, spinning, and spending time with her family.
