How All On 4 Dental Implants Work
This procedure uses what is called “tilted implants.” Four posts are placed strategically at a 45-degree angle. There are two reasons for this. First, it increases stability and strength. Secondly, it avoids damaging the sinus cavity and the nerve canal. Because the implants are tilted, they will anchor better into the jawbone, improving support. We also use longer dental implants so that the need for bone grafting is reduced.
The All-on-4-Implant will begin with an initial evaluation by East Columbus Periodontic and Implant Dentistry to determine if you are a good fit for this treatment. After this has been determined, we will then perform an examination of your jawbone to ensure that the bone and structural integrity and density are strong enough to hold an implant.
If you are a viable candidate to have this procedure, the next step would be to extract any decayed teeth and to clean the area where the four strategically placed titanium posts will be placed into your jawbone. Titanium is preferred because it is the only metal that naturally integrates with the bone.
Prior to implanting these posts, we will administer a local anesthetic. We offer a variety of options for sedation, which includes nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and intravenous sedation. Be sure to discuss what option you prefer with us prior to your procedure.
Once the anesthetic has numbed the area, East Columbus Periodontic and Implant Dentistry will implant the four posts which will be used to secure and anchor your dentures. It is important to understand that following the placement of these posts, you will need at least three or four months to allow the titanium to integrate with your jawbone. During this healing process, we will provide a temporary set of dentures, which we will customize for your arch. Once you have fully healed from this implant fusing, you will return to our office, where the permanent All-on-4 dental implants will be placed. There are some cases in which the teeth can be attached to the implants on the same day they are placed. This is what many people have seen advertised as “teeth in a day”.
