How Will the Full Mouth Dental Implants Be Placed?
First, the titanium implants, which look like tiny screws, are surgically placed into your jaw. Then, over the next several months, the implants and the bone will fuse, integrate, or grow together to form anchors for your artificial teeth. During this period, a temporary teeth replacement option can be worn over the implant sites.
Often, a second step of the procedure is necessary to uncover the implants and to attach abutments or extensions. Temporary healing caps, along with the connecting device that allows multiple crowns to attach to the implants, complete the foundation on which your new teeth secured. Your gums will be allowed to heal for a couple of weeks following this procedure.
There are two types of implant-supported dentures: bar-retained and ball-retained. With both types, the denture will be made of an acrylic base that will look like your gums. Porcelain or acrylic teeth that look like natural teeth are attached to this base. Both types of dentures will need at least two implants for support. The connecting device on the underside of the dentures that will hold your new teeth can be tightened down and clipped to a bar or a round ball anchor to which your full mouth dental implant dentures will snap on and off. After a short time, you will experience restored confidence in your smile and your ability to chew and speak.
